Tabbey Bobbin Workshops: Friendly Sewing Classes in Newcastle

Welcome to Tabbey Bobbin Workshops, founded and taught by me, Sarah. I'm a self-taught sewist with a Level 3 teaching qualification, and I'm dedicated to making machine sewing simple, accessible and fun, even if you've never threaded a needle.

We're in a cosy, dedicated studio in the heart of Newcastle, just a short walk from Grey Street and Monument Metro.

What we offer

  • Beginner tasters and Introduction to Sewing: learn your machine and make your first project

  • 6-week Introduction to Sewing to Dressmaking: go from machine basics to making a garment

  • Project-based workshops: from your first tote bag or cushion to garments, in small groups

  • Overlocker workshops

  • 1-1 sewing tuition: tailored support for a tricky project, alteration or work-in-progress

  • Machine hire: practise without buying a machine

  • Commissions and alterations: appointment and discussion only, just message me.

We run evening and weekend sessions to fit around your week. Everything you need is provided, unless stated in the class listing.

What students say:

Jen :

The Tabbey Bobbin sewing workshop is an excellent way to get hands-on experience learning machine sewing techniques. Sarah is super knowledgeable about sewing, machine sewing, different types of materials and fabrics, and troubleshooting issues that might come up.

It was a fun class, and I learned a lot in a relaxed atmosphere, where it was easy to ask questions and see every concept demonstrated.

All materials and machines were provided and ready to go, so I just had to show up and learn. I had a great time and went from being pretty much an absolute beginner to being confident about setting up a sewing machine, finding materials, and making something!

Thank you, Sarah, for this class!!

Jaqueline

I had a lovely experience at Tabbey Bobbin with my mum and daughter. We made pillow cases, and Sarah guided us really well. We all came away feeling like we had learnt something new and with confidence to do more at home

Catherine

Sarah is such a fantastic teacher - she is so patient and easy to work with. I was so nervous about starting the classes, but as a group we love going, and everyone feels so encouraged!
